Ian Schwartz MD

Chief Clinical Officer, Froedtert ThedaCare Health and Senior Associate Dean of Quality, Medical College of Wisconsin

Dr. Ian Schwartz serves as the Chief Clinical Officer for Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Interim President for Froedtert Hospital and Senior Associate Dean of Quality for the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Medicine. In these roles, Dr. Schwartz provides leadership and expertise for clinical quality and safety, population health, disease management, care coordination, clinical integration, clinical informatics and enterprise analytics.

Dr. Schwartz joined Froedtert Health as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer in 2022. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations, and Chief Clinical Operations Officer for the Yale New Haven Health System in Connecticut. Throughout his tenure at Yale, Dr. Schwartz held several key leadership positions, including Medical Director for the Level 1 Emergency Department and Trauma Center at one of the country's largest hospitals. He also distinguished himself as Yale's inaugural Executive Director for Care Management and Performance Improvement.

Throughout his career, Dr. Schwartz has led numerous nationally recognized clinical innovation and transformation programs. His accomplishments include establishing the first Epic-integrated capacity coordination center, developing a health system-integrated system for clinical redesign, and launching a comprehensive care pathway program across Yale's academic health system. These initiatives have been widely adopted by other health systems across the country, demonstrating their effectiveness and impact on healthcare delivery.

As a thought leader in healthcare innovation, Dr. Schwartz has published extensively and presented at national conferences on his initiatives and approaches to clinical transformation. His work has influenced healthcare delivery models and operational strategies at academic medical centers and health systems nationwide.

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received both his undergraduate and medical degrees. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital. His background also includes four years as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company in New York City, where he focused on strategy and operations for healthcare and media clients. This unique combination of clinical expertise and business acumen has informed his approach to healthcare leadership and innovation.
